PAWS Pack # 74; That's Me!
by Oliver
Mom got a big surprise when she returned home from her overseas vacation. She learned that I had been accepted in the Dogs for the PAWS project and my painting was done. Me!
Annamarie "Missy" Johnson painted my portrait and you can see it all All Things Dog Blog or at the Dogs for the PAWS site. It's so beautiful that I'm proud it's me. You can even read the story of my adoption. I didn't come to live in this family by the most conventional route. Check it out!

Pet Bloggers Unite to Help Rescues and Humane Societies
by Oliver
My mom and a dog loving company called MANKINDdog™ have formed a pack of their own. They're busy raising money for mom's favorite rescue and MANKINDdog's local Humane Society by getting bloggers to link to their program.
At the Blogpaws conference lots of pet bloggers like us started a "Be the Change" program to do good stuff for pets. They're helping mom out too, with a nice post at the link above. When we all work together, we can help lots more pets get homes and have nice lives. Tanner and I want to do our part, cuz we're the lucky guys. So, we're going to "Be the Change" along with our mom. Won't you join us and blog about her campaign!
When it's all over they'll be giving away lots of thank you gifts and 2 big prize packages. Tanner and I looked over the prize packages and decided we're in. We're bloggers too, so we're going to help out. We're posting about the campaign right here.
You can enter to win the prize package this way:

My Cousins are in Dire Need. Can You Help?
by Tanner
My friends over at A New Beginning are in tough position. They were granted possession of over 250 Labs and Lab mixes that needs foster families and forever homes really fast. These are nice folks and Labs are nice dogs. I oughta know; I'm a Retriever too. That makes us sorta relatives--cousins, I guess.
If you can help with a donation, food, an adoption, or perhaps by fostering a dog for a while, they would be very thankful for your help. Visit the link above to learn more, or visit All Things Dog Blog.
After you've explored that opportunity, maybe you'd like to join our blog hop? This is a cool way to visit a few new blogs that are all about the same thing--pets. We're so much fun, we thought you'd like to read more:

Dog Rescue Stories Raise Awareness about Puppy Mills
by Tanner
While Mom was at the Blogpaws conference, she met loads of nice people. One was Kyla Duffy, a nice young lady who put on a super duper aerial show, set to a video presentation, that wowed everyone.
Mom says her performance was tough to beat, but that she does something even better. She publishes books to help educate folks on the woes of puppy mills and bunches of stories about rescued dogs. This one at left (yes! I know right and left; I studied agility) is about Golden Retrievers, so naturally, it's my favorite.
If you want to look at this book, just click the photo to take you to it. You can also check out their books about other breeds, including Assistance Dogs, by visiting them at Happy Tails Books.
Would you like to have your pet's story in a Happy Tail Book? They're looking for rescue dog stories and would love to hear from you, especially if you work for a rescue group and have lots of contacts. Check out the guidelines at Happy Tails Books.
One more woof....if you share a story with Happy Tails, please be sure to let us know when to watch for it. We love to read our readers' stories.
You can find Happy Tails' ad in the sidebar at All Things Dog Blog, as well. Their mission is awesome, so be sure to visit them to learn more.

It's a Dog's Life: 10 Things about Xena
by Xena
I know. We just finished telling you that we're not planning to get too organized. After we hit the publish button on the last post, we had a staff meeting: me, Tanner and Oliver--the little guy. The three of us decided that we should probably tell you a little about each of us. We gonna write our own, so don't expect anything too much like a profile. Tanner's will probably talk about his fetch toys! Here goes:
10 Things About Xena:

10 Things About Xena:
- I am 1 of a litter of 8 puppies from a Golden Retriever momma who had a oopsie with a Lab/Chow daddy. I was adopted at a "Rescue Day" at a local pet superstore.
- They call me a senior citizen because I'm old. I was born in 1996. You do the math.
- Just because I am old doesn't mean I don't still like to have fun. My favorite activities are tossing dad's socks in the air, taking a car ride, going on a walk, and napping.
- When I was first adopted, the lady at the agency gave me a bandanna. My mom put it on me and after a few days it fell off. I picked it up and brought it to mom to put back on. I almost always wear a bandanna. I love them!
- My first friend's name was Deke, a handsome Rottweiler.
- My girl, Toni, helped pick me out and myy boy, Brent, named me. My official name is Xena--Warrior Princess.
- I savor my treats and chewy strips. Sometimes I hide them for later and Mom finds them in funny places, like under her pillow.
- When I was about 2, I adopted a kitten named Patches. She and I played tag and hide and seek a lot. Now we're both getting on in years, and we're more into napping. She hunts down the sunny spots near windows and I like the cool tile.
- I met one of my sisters at the dog park once, when we were about 12. It was cool...sorta like looking in the mirror. There is something magical about sharing the same birthday with someone. Don't you think so?
- I loved helping to raise my 3 kids. It was my job to make sure they got their exercise. We biked and walked and went swimming together. Mom and Dad and I walked a lot too. It's been a great life.

Help with Adoptions; Here's the Straight Scoop
by Xena
Let's face it. There's really only one important thing to making a pet adoption work. It's very simple: Love us!
Over at All Things Dog Blog Mom is turning this topic into a major thing. She makes a lot of great points, but it still comes down to love. If you really love your dog, you'll do whatever it takes to care for her, right?
I was adopted at a rescue day at one of those big pet superstores. It was really noisy and everyone was very excited. I had 7 brothers and sisters. We all got homes that day, so it ended well.
Later, I got to meet one of my sisters at the dog park one day when we were about 12. How cool is that? It was like looking in the mirror--sorta spooky!
Anyway, if you need some help making sure your own adoption goes well, my mom can help with her tips. She'll be glad to answer your questions too. Just leave your question in the comment box and she'll get back to you. Good luck with your pup.

Woo Who...A Rescue Dog?
by Oliver
Mom's RESCUING ROVER column is back again at All Things Dog Blog, with a story from a lady in the Netherlands. We're getting pretty international over here, with readers visiting from more than a dozen countries now.
This nice lady, Niki, rescued a little dog named Allie Woo Woo--funny, huh?!
Some folks say my name is funny because it isn't cutesy enough. But that's the way Toni wanted to name me. Mom liked silly names like Furbie and Gizmo, but Toni was having none of that.
Personally, I don't care what my name is as long as they don't forget to call me when dinner is ready. I have my priorities.
Hope you enjoy Allie Woo Woo's story. It made me well up, and I have a hard time admitting stuff like that. It's a guy thing.
