Wordless Wednesday
Shows Off Oliver's PJ's

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
Our First Chilly Day
As silly as I may look in these pj's that have legs on them and everything, I have discovered that they are quite cozy on a chilly day. Today we awoke to 42 degrees, something that happens rarely here. I have to admit these new jammies I got from our friends at Petco really are pretty nifty. What do you think?

You'll find another shot of me in them at All Things Dog Blog. Somehow their Woofing Wednesday link up got fowled up and mom put the wrong link in--oops!

by Oliver

What? No Santa at
Fido's Freebie Friday!
I've been a good sport wearing this silly outfit and now I find out that there won't be a Santa at Fido's Freebie Friday over at All Things Dog Blog today.....or tomorrow! That's just awful. Okay, so there are some great prizes and it's not terribly busy this week so people who enter have a better chance of winning, but still. No Santa!

Missing Xena

by Patches
© Carrie Boyko
Patches Misses Xena
Hi gang. I know this is 5 Minutes for FIDO, but I've hijacked the blog for today. It's National Mutt day and I'm celebrating my former companion, Xena. She was the closest thing I had to a furry mother here.

From the day I arrived, she washed my ears, cleaned my backside, pushed me toward the dish at chow time and was a terrific tag game companion. We had many a good race around the house and  I always repaid her by catching a lizard on our screened porch and presenting it for her approval.
© courtesy NationalMuttDay.com

So, here's to Xena (and to me) for being fun-loving, lovable Mutts. I hope you are celebrating your mutt today. You can leave a photo of him or her on All Things Dog Blog's Facebook page, and tell us a little about him. Mom shared my pic there to get you started. Happy National Mutt Day!

We're Back!

by Tanner
Me and Oliver (and mom too) are back from our time off. No modeling or photo shoots for a whole week--wow. I have to say it was a little bit boring, so I'm glad to be back to work. I get to do more product reviews coming up, besides playing with my birdhouse.

Check out all the giveaway winners over at All Things Dog Blog now. You won't believe all the cool stuff mom gave away. She's working on cleaning up her office, although between you and me, she's still got a long way to go!

Fido's Freebie Friday Working Hard Today

by Tanner
Mom's weekly giveaway blog hop is always fun for her readers. Not so much for me and Oliver. We have to watch all those great goodies go out the door to other doggies. What gives? We let mom take all these pictures of us and we completely and totally look adorable in them, and then she gives them away.

Today there are just a ton of giveaways and the Fido's Freebie Friday just opened a few minutes ago. Should I complain to her? Maybe I'll get Oliver to do it. The little one always has more pull with mommies. What do you think?

When you visit All Things Dog Blog you'll see what I mean. It's absolutely totally not fair how much good doggie stuff is being given away to, well, to YOU!

Ruff Weekend

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
Sunny Sunday and no Car Ride for Me :(

While Tanner was busy taking daily swims, playing tug, and chasing the laser light with my family, I hung back and did the cuddle thing. Two of my "kids" were home so I was pretty happy to spend time with them.

Unfortunately I was left behind on a visit to the Gramma, where my cousin Jacque lives. I've got my sunglasses on for the trip and everything. What gives?

What were they thinking? I ALWAYS go along to visit the Gramma and Jacque. He's a Papillon too and we enjoy a good romp every time I visit. Then I sleep all the way home while mom drives, and it is a glorious ride for me. There's nothing better than a good nap in my crate while the car hums along on the interstate. Zzzzzzz.....

I was hoping you guys would help me out with the mom's faux pas. She needs to know that I don't plan to put up with being left behind on trips to see the Gramma and Jacque. Will you tell her for me, please? Drop on over to see her at All Things Dog Blog, where the Mutt Monday blog hop is going on today, and give her a piece of your mind. I promise to love you forever. :)

Tanner and Oliver Meet Twitter

by Tanner and Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
We're on Twitter @5MinutesforFido
I'm not sure what we've been waiting for. Mom's #BarkFriday Twitter party maybe? Yeah; probably. We had to beat Tiki and Irie to the punch.  They're the fido partners of our friends at Dogtipper who are doing the Twitter Party with All Things Dog Blog. That's mom's blog; make sure you keep us straight now, okay? We were worried maybe Tiki and Irie would start tweeting and get the jump on us.

Anyway, it's official. As of a few minutes ago we're on Twitter. I guess that makes us Anipals, right?

We're dude dogs, so none of that hard to read stuff; just mannish talk, okay? Stop by and follow us, and be sure to tell all your Anipal friends that we have arrived on the Twitter scene. See you at #BarkFriday!

Halloween Hound Silliness

by Tanner

What Do Ya Think?

So.....Oliver is getting primped in his Captain Jack Sparrow outfit.  I already did my gig, swimming with the dolphins. I couldn't stand it. I had to try on his dreadlocks. You like?

If you think I look silly, stop over at All Things Dog Blog so you can laugh at coo over Oliver. He's such a stud--NOT!

Birthday Rain Out :(

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
Rain on My Birthday? @!!!
Today is my Fourth birthday. We have a cake and treats and everything all ready. I could hardly sleep last night knowing that cake was waiting in the kitchen. But what d'ya know....RAIN. Buckets of rain!

It has been raining since the wee hours and look at me. This is what happens to a Papillon when he has do his morning business in pouring rain. It's really just not fair.

And what of my party? Mom says I have to wait to eat the cake until we can properly don our hats and take photos and sing the Happy Birthday to me song. Can you help me? Here are your options:

  • Please stop the rain. Send it to Texas where they need it so badly. My birthday is at stake here!
  • Get in touch with my momma at All Things Dog Blog and tell her my birthday should be like a Broadway show. You know, "The Show Must Go On!"
  • Finally, try our friends over at Dogtipper and see if they will take this rain off our shoulders. I'm certain they will be happy to accept a transfer.
  • While you're visiting All Things Dog Blog and Dogtipper, there will be absolutely no entries of this photo in any photo contest. Forget you saw it. I will seek revenge if it is repeated anywhere.

Photo Contest Time: It's Halloween!

by Tanner
© Carrie Boyko
Tanner is Ready to
Swim with the Dolphins
Okay, I've got my embarrassing moment out of the way with this photo. Ya'll need to forget you saw this, please? Maybe next year I won't be wearing something sissy.

Oliver is going to be putty in mom's hands this year. She's got a totally cool, really awesome costume for him. Strangely though, it's way too big for him. She'll have to get out the seamstress tools to make it work. I'm just glad it won't fit me. Whew!

I've been instructed to let you know that All Things Dog Blog and Dogtipper are teaming up to bring you a great costume contest. I guess my dolphin is out of the ocean now, but Oliver's costume is still a secret. (Did you get my joke?) Let's hope he can hang on to it long enough for a photo.

More on that photo contest: They've got prizes for dogs and dog-lovers, Terra Paws treats, flashlights and more. The best part is after the independent judges pick the finalists, you guys get to vote on the winners. Check it out over at All Things Dog Blog or Dogtipper. And dude, please come up with a costume that is not so lame as mine, okay?

Tips for Tug-of-War Wannabes

by Tanner
© Carrie Boyko
Yup! She Had to Wave the White Flag
Every now and then I have the duty of teaching a newbie the greatest dog game ever--Tug of War! This is Lauren. She's really a rookie, so I had some fun showing her than nobody beats Tanner at Tug. Well maybe Dad, but he doesn't really count because he's way bigger than me.

Here's my tips for winning Tug of War to all you dogs out there. Please make sure this article stays safely in dogdom. We don't need the humans knowing our tricks of the trade.

  • Invite your house guest to play by laying the toy in their lap. Rarely do they not understand this kickoff maneuver.
  • Start out pulling gently to give the impression you'll be a pushover. This will tease your opponent into believing this will be an easy win.
  • Let them think they are winning for while.
  • Make sure to start out with a really good grip. Grasp the toy with your back teeth to assure the strongest part of your jaw is doing the work.
  • Next, put your body weight into the game and start to back up.
  • To get the game cranking, offer a good shake.
  • Change directions. Pull up. Pull down. Pull back and occasionally lunge forward and then surprise your opponent with an unsuspected move in any direction.
  • Sound tough. Let out a guttural growl.
  • If you're up against a worthy competitor, try this tactic: Pretend to give up. Stop pulling, while keeping the toy in your mouth, and walk toward your opponent. Suddenly jerk the toy as you back up quickly. This usually does the trick for me.
  • Conditioning will be your friend. If you're out of shape, you're sure to lose. Drop on over to K9 Kamp at Peggy's Pet Place and Kol's Notes to get some more tips on shaping up for games like Tug.
Be sure to stop over at All Things Dog Blog where my mom is sharing our weekly report on K9 Kamp training. I definitely have more points than she does this week. Does that mean I win a prize?

Teamwork Guard Dogs: Do We Look Vicious?

by Tanner and Oliver
(c) Carrie Boyko
Do We Look Rough and Tough?
Mom has us on guard duty today. We're not sure if we're guarding our new P.L.A.Y. bed or the front door. We're trying to put on our best tough-guy looks. How are we doing?

Oliver says he's definitely more ferocious looking. After all, have you seen the picture of Tanner over at All Things Dog Blog today? It's absolutely pussy-cat! Be sure to check it out. Meanwhile, Oliver will be sure to keep things safe here, tough guy that he is!

Tired Oliver Takes Ten

by Oliver
(c) Carrie Boyko
The Blogpaws Bouncer
Yup. You heard right. Blogpaws was a huge success, despite our brush with Hurricane Irene. That's mostly because I was on duty. As the unofficial, off-the-record, Blogpaws Bouncer, I kept all the pups out of trouble and made sure that the bloggers got their doggie fix. I was on call 24-7 and mom and I hung tight to the bitter (no so much) end.

Of course, taking care of security was just one of my roles at this year's conference. I also had to stand in as mom's PR front man. That's no easy task but I think I pulled it off well. I met all kinds of new friends. If you're a blogger, I hope to see you next year. It's a blast!

Now that I'm home, I plan to rest up. Next year's event will be right around the corner. Meanwhile, I think mom has more jobs for me than ever over at All Things Dog Blog. I better get a quick nap in before her To Do List arrives.

Dear Dog-Mom: We Need to Talk

by Tanner
© Carrie Boyko
Time for a Heart-to-Heart
Dear Mom:

Lately Oliver is getting most of the attention over at All Things Dog Blog. I know I'm not the chosen one that gets to go to Blogpaws, but I'm still important. Maybe I could go next year? I'd like to be the one who's packing and being fussed over. And of course you won't need a rolling carrier for me. I can walk through the airport just fine. Airplanes? No problem. I'm fearless. Just let me rest my head on your lap and we'll be there in a jiffy.

On to another matter. I think I'm pulling more than my weight in the modeling and photo shoot stuff lately, even though Oliver is doing all the Blogpaws posts. What gives? I haven't seen him doing any pool-slaying of floating toys or fetching of flying discs. At least I can do stuff that isn't just about STAY. I'm also much more help in the kitchen with KP.

Sincerely your doggie,

Tanner

PS: I'd be perfectly happy with an increase in my treat compensation and my Organix ration. Maybe a Dog Pack Snack now and then, huh? Coco won't mind.

Happy Birthday Tanner! You're 5 Now.

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
5 Years Old Today!
I can hardly believe that my big brother is 5 today. I'm pretty sure I'll never be that OLD. Let's see; I'm, um, 3 I think. Yeah. That still sounds young, right? It must be cuz mom always calls me the "kid".

So, you're probably wondering how we celebrated, huh? The usual stuff that Tanner thinks is fun: dog park and swimming. I had fun too, but no wet stuff for me. I swam last week when mom said it was time for my regular "reminder" of where the shallow step is. One of these days she'll realize I'll never forget, right?

No Fetch for Oliver

by Oliver

© E. Glavin
Interested Oliver
Keeps His Distance
So Mom is outside, once again, doing water stuff with Tanner. She always invites me to participate, but this sort of activity doesn't float my boat, if you know what I mean. I'm a great swimmer, but it's not my thing.

The bad part about this is that I get left out when Mom has water toys to review. Like today. Over at All Things Dog Blog, she's got a fetch toy review of  Floatimals, by Petmate, going on. Tanner is having a really great time playing with his new Floatimal. But me? I don't want any part of the water. Mom and Tanner are also giving away some Floatimals to you guys, so if you're interested in a new water toy, now's the time to head on over to All Things Dog Blog. Good luck.

The Balanced Canine?

by Tanner and Oliver

Yoga Dog Oliver
"Yo, Oliver. What cha doin over there against the wall, dude?", Tanner asks.

"It's yoga, man. I'm trying to get balanced. You know, like a Zen master", Oliver replies.

"You look totally stupid, dude," Tanner insists.

Oliver replies, "I'd like to see your version of a balanced canine."

"No problem; Check it out", Tanner prompts:

I'm Not Upside Down!

Tanner continues, "Ya know, we don't have to do yoga to be balanced. Mom's got a new "Ask the Vet" columnist who writes a blog called The Balanced Canine. We could just head over there and read some."

"A new vet? Is this one a nice lady too?" asks Oliver.

Tanner replies, "Nope. It's a dude. He's got a Yoga Dog on his blog. That's why you should go read it. You're apparently into being balanced and having Zen moments, right?"

"How'd you find out we had a new vet?" asks Oliver.

"Dude, don't you read mom's blog? She announced Dr. Mark's arrival on Sunday. You can read all about him at A Changing of the Guard: Meet Your New Ask the Vet Columnist. C'mon, Oliver. Ya gotta keep up now", Tanner teases. "Dr. Mark starts today, so check it out".

Dogs Unleashed Finds Another Model

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
I'm Guarding the Goodies
for Dogs Unleashed

Mom and Tanner have been taking the longest bath in history today while Dad sat snapping away with the picture box. I got left inside. Can you believe it?

I gave mom one of my looks when she came inside and so she patronized me by snapping a couple of pictures of me with the prizes. Hmmm....It's not the same as being the featured model.

She's giving away a bunch of nice bath stuff--towels, aprons, bath mitts, sponges for cleanup, and a cool tote bag that has a great saying on it. You should check out the giveaway over at All Things Dog Blog. Why miss out on stuff this neat?

Oliver Investigates Petstages' Mini Nesting Mat

by Oliver

This is my new soothing bedding. It's called a Petstages Mini Nesting Mat and it's made especially for dogs like me to root around in, digging and rearranging. I love redecorating my bedding, and this is the perfect thing for that.  Mom has written a review over at All Things Dog Blog, but this is my personal, private show...just for you.

I guess I should tell you that she's giving some of these neato cushy blanket thingys away over at her blog. I just have cool pictures. That's okay too, right? Hope you win!

If you don't get to be one of the winners, you can order your Mini Nesting Mat through the Amazon ad at this link or on All Things Dog Blog. The product is also being sold through many pet specialty stores, so be sure to ask for it by name. Happy Nesting!

Full disclosure: All Things Dog Blog has been provided with a free sample to do this review of the Petstages Mini Nesting Mat. We have not been paid to provide our opinion of this product, and the opinion provided is our own.

Can I Go to Blogpaws Too?
Oliver's all packed for Blogpaws and I have to stay home. Now does that seem fair to you? I'd like to go meet Toki and Snotface and Judy....and all the other Anipals that mom got to meet last year. Maybe Delta will sponsor me for a seat on the plane? I Can wear my Super Bowl hat and tell the pilots about SuperDog Sunday. They'll totally want to join in the fun, right?

Jolly Pets Hat and Tshirt Awarded

by Tanner
© Carrie Boyko
Hats for Dogs? Hmmm....
Anybody remember this photo from the Super Dog Sunday Blog Hop? I had a ton of fun taking photos in all sorts of football themes. We're planning on making that an annual event. Hope you'll join us this year.

Speaking of Super Dog Sunday, my mom has footballs for all of you that are attending Blogpaws. Some of the pup moms and dads that didn't get to participate last year said it was because they did not have a football-themed item for a photo. So we're gonna help this year.

We have cool footballs to give away for your photo. Oliver will be showing them off on Wednesday at Wordless Wednesday. You can check him out on All Things Dog Blog Wednesday.

Now for the big announcement. We've taken entries for a free hat and Tshirt from our friends at Jolly Pets. Watch for more reviews of their products coming soon. Today's winner is Kirby. To collect your prize, Kirby needs to send his shipping address to AllThingsDogBlog@gmail.com. We can't wait to see a picture of Kirby in his cool hat.

Speaking of free stuff, have you been over to Fido's Freebie Friday for the giveaway linky? There's bunch of giveaways listed there--all sorts of great stuff for the Bow Wow buddy in your life. Go shopping!

Tanner...A Latte Please. Make it Iced.

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
Sometime This Week, Tanner!
It's Hot Out Here
You just can't get good help these days. My Twitter account is hopping with invites from the ladies and mom says I'm not allowed to play on Twitter. She has given me a list of things to do and has me wearing a tie, for goodness sakes. I like the bandana idea better, but she says that's for casual wear, not "Office Casual". Isn't this supposed to be "Casual Friday?" It's too much for me to digest. Maybe that latte will help, if it ever arrives. Tanner!

You'll find my Weekly preview on All Things Dog Blog on Sunday, I think. It's impeccably written, if I do say so myself. Keep in mind, though, I don't have opposable thumbs, so my typing may be a bit creative. Hope you and your dog had a great "Take Your Dog to Work Day." I loved my Twitter time with the ladies, even if mom did scold me for it. **Snicker**

More Scary Gator Stuff?

by Oliver
© Carrie Boyko
More Gators? Run!
I'm not terribly thrilled with all this gator stuff going on. Mom is scaring me with all the talk about gators and dogs getting hurt. Today she has written the last (she promised) post about gator safety over at All Things Dog Blog. It's all about nesting season and the dangers of gator mamas that are watching their little ones. Yikes! I'm going to hid behind this toy and stay put. Wait; this toy is a gator. Run!

Who Knew? Toys for Zoo Animals!

    by Oliver and Tanner
    (c) Carrie Boyko
Love the Pup on the Hat!
Imagine our surprise when we opened the package and found a horse Tshirt inside!!! The hat has an adorable pup embroidered on it. No, it doesn't look like Oliver OR Tanner, but it's cute.

Turns out that Jolly Pets makes toys for Zoo animals and horses. Who knew? We read through the brochure and were shocked to find toys for Tigers and all sorts of zoo animals that need to have entertainment just like us pups. Learn something new every day.

Well, we've delivered on our promise to post a photo of the hat and Tshirt here. You can read up on how to win them at this post.

    by Tanner and Oliver
    © Carrie Boyko
Toni Plays with Oliver and Tanner
Our mom has been busy playing 'blogging' all day. She says she has started Fido's Freebie Friday for bloggers to list their giveaways in a Blog Hop. Sounds like fun, huh?

Tanner and I want to play too. Mom says we can give away anything she doesn't have to review, so we just dug through the goodies and found a Jolly Pets hat and Tshirt. It's really cute, with an embroidered pup on the hat, and perfect for playtime with your pack. Want to win? You can leave a comment here to enter. Be sure to leave us a way to contact you if you're the big lucky winner.

How will you know you won? We'll draw a winner from the comment-entries one week from tonight. Entries close at 5 PM on Thursday, June 23rd. We'll announce the winner on Friday, June 24th. We're so excited to get into the prize-giving gig. What fun! Want to see a picture of the hat? Watch for that coming tomorrow or this weekend. Stay tuned; the camera man is off duty today. :(

We'll list this giveaway here and on All Things Dog Blog's Fido's Freebie Friday, where there are lots of cool giveaways for pet lovers. You might find something neato there, so check it out. See ya soon.

All Things Dog Blog's Weekly Preview

    by Tanner
    © Carrie Boyko
    Tanner Loves his  Birdhouse
Oliver is napping after a particularly long photo session this morning. He's exhausted from trying to get the treat out of a new bone he's testing from the nice folks at Safe Made Pet. They make cool toys out of silicone that is guaranteed to be safe for kids and pets to play with. Now that's a new concept. We'll be reviewing them for you soon at All Things Dog Blog.

This week you'll be entertained by a singing puppy, offered assistance for a fearful dog by one of our trainers, have a chance to enter a dog-themed handbag giveaway, get a new recipe for pup biscuits and find out who won the Hol-ee Roller giveaway. And that's just the highlights. There's much more, but I'm way too busy with my birdhouse toy to read the whole schedule.

Hope you enjoy some surprises as we venture into more fun over at All Things Dog Blog.

Doing Organix Dishes is Such Fun

    by Oliver
    (c) Carrie Boyko
I Got Dish Duty Today. Yay!

One of our favorite things to do is dishes. After chow time is over, Tanner washes out my dish and I wash out his. I guess I get the best deal here, huh?

Some trainers would not advise allowing this. But our mom taught us about food aggression when we were just pups and we'll have none of that. We share nicely. And that's a good thing, because I'd probably lose everytime. Tanner outweighs me by 7 times. Now that would not be a fair fight!

Back to business. Mom has announced the winners of the 12 bags of Organix dog food over at All Things Dog Blog. She still has the food hidden, so we have not been able to raid the bags :(  Did you win?
